Book Review #1 (The Hunger Games)

Alright, many of you here have requested my first book review be of The Hunger Games, and I can't argue with that. The Hunger Games seemed like a great way to start off my review series! I will put a summary towards the end of the post since some of you have not read the books or watched the movies. The Hunger Games, in my opinion, is of the greatest trilogies I have ever read. I am only focusing on the first book for now though. I think the author (Suzanne Collins) showed great expertise in expressing Katniss Everdeen's emotions throughout this traumatizing experience. You would think Suzanne Collins went through The Hunger Games herself! Katniss felt only what someone can feel in an arena full of abnormal bloodthirsty teenagers with multiple life-threatening decisions on your hands. One thing I always wondered while reading The Hunger Games was, where did they go to the bathroom? When? The cameras were always on the contestants, even when Katniss and Peeta were having a...romantic moment. Summary: There are 13 districts, all run by the Capitol. Basically reality, right? Anyway, years ago, district 13 started an uprising, a spark in the fire of the soon to come revolution. The Capitol quickly stomped out the fire that was starting and in punishment, they created the Hunger Games, where two contestants from every district (besides the Capitol) had to compete in the survival of the fittest. There could be two winners, in the end, everyone else dead. The beginning of the book starts out with Katniss Everdeen, who is a 16-year-old girl, and Gale Hawthorne, a close friend of Katniss', hunting in the forest. Soon after, The Hunger Games contestants are drawn from a fishbowl and Peeta Mellark, who is a baker boy, and Primrose, who is Katniss' little sister, are chosen. Heartbroken, Katniss knows she can't lose her sister, so she volunteers. Katniss is the only person to volunteer in the history of district 12. Katniss and Peeta are taken to the Capitol to train with the other contestants, and Katniss does something interesting to impress the judges greatly. Katniss has very few allies among the contestants though because they all want to win. You'll have to read to book to see what happens next :)
